Social Work is a diverse profession in Australia with a commitment to human rights and social justice at the very core of what they do. Social workers work with individuals, families, groups and communities in the context of their physical, social and cultural environments, their past and current experiences, and their cultural and belief systems. Social Workers will likely work alongside individuals, their family and community to address life challenges and enhance wellbeing. It is often described as a very collaborative, practical profession which includes individual counselling and therapy all the way to policy development and social action.
The Australian Association of Social Worker (AASW) describe social workers as maintaining a dual focus on both assisting with and improving human wellbeing and identifying and addressing any external issues (known as system or structural issues) that may impact on wellbeing or may create inequality, injustice and discrimination.
Both Briony and Kirsty are active members of the Queensland branch of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
